Fix error reading machine specific preferences photoshop .
whenever I open Photoshop it gives me an error message saying “error reading machine specific preferences. They will be reset to defaults”. sure enough, they are, why does it keep giving me this error message and how can I fix it.
It seems that your startup Photoshop preferences are corrupt. It could be beacuse you’ve had upgraded to this version from a previous version of Photoshop or you have some 3’rd party plugins preventing the app to launch. With the August 2022 release of Photoshop 23.5, you can now easily locate what you’re searching for using the preferences search capability within the Preferences dialog.
To access the search panel in the Preferences dialog box, follow these steps:
- Use the keyboard shortcut Cmd/Ctrl + K to launch the Preferences dialog.

How to use the new Search bar
The new search bar is available near the upper-right corner of the Preferences dialog. Use the keyboard shortcut Cmd/Ctrl + F or click inside the box and type a keyword that you want to search within the preferences.
A dropdown will appear with suggested search phrases, which are updated as you enter text in the search box. Once you’ve finished typing, hit Enter or select “See all results”. The results will be displayed in a dropdown beneath the search field. Click your desired option to navigate to the corresponding section, which will appear with a temporary highlight that is dismissed after a few seconds.

Use Preferences to set a neutral color scheme for Photoshop
Change the color of elements on the interface, such as the blue Share button, to a selected neutral color mode when in the editing mode.
To enable the neutral color mode, navigate to Preferences > Interface and select the checkbox under the look and feel section for Neutral Color Mode.

Photoshop Beta 25.0 Suddenly crashed while editing a picture and will not start again on MAC OS.
I removed the Beta version and installed it again and it wont start. It crashes. Deleted Photoshop 2023 to see if there was a connection but no. Still the Beta version crashed. Removed Beta files and still crashes.
Downloaded the previous version Beta 24.7 and Photoshop worked except the Ai tool. Needed version 25.0 for that to work but its the version that keeps crashing when I try to open it. I have tried different trousbleshoots without avail.
Please help me, I’ve tried other forums but so far no one has been able to help me fix this, and I haven’t been able to use my PS for weeks now.

Ok, that being said.
I’ve used Photoshop for like 20some years.
The other day, while working on an image, it was a 2 layer image and I was trying to run the Camera Raw filter on the top layer, and when I clicked on it,……….. it thought and thought, the circle spun and then it just didn’t do anything. I went to “edit” to see if it had performed something that I could step back but it never actually did anything.
Within about 10 minutes, I tried liquefying the same image and I got this error:

HRESULT error: The parameter is incorrect. OK
Ugh, I tried to go out and back in, but it still wouldn’t work. So my husband said to reboot. After closing all I was working on, I rebooted.
Then when I went to launch PS I got this error:
Adobe Photoshop
Error reading machine specific preferences.
They will be reset to defaults. OK
Wait, what? What will be reset? the 20+ years of acquiring actions/presets/filters/brushes/and templates?
If I were some big business, I guess I could take this in stride, but I typically make less than $2K a year …….
I’ve really tried to find help,and I’m not 100% certain it’s not somehow related to CS auto updating (and consequently booting my machine)….. Ugh

Oh I’m on Windows 10, Adobe auto updated my software a few weeks ago and I haven’t been able touse it since, but it’s saying on the “Creative Cloud Desktop” that there is an update available.
