The new game mode is hidden by Google under the Digital Wellbeing feature on Android 12. You can activate it by going to Settings > Digital Wellbeing > Do Not Disturb > Schedules, then ticking Check the option Game mode.
To access Game mode options, press the gear-shaped button located to the right of it. On the screen that appears, you will see four function buttons at the top including taking screenshots, recording screen videos, increasing/decreasing the number of frames per second (FPS), and turning on/off the Do not Disturb mode.
Testing shows that all function buttons here work fine. The screen recorder even allows you to choose whether the audio source you want to record is from the microphone, from the audio on the device, or both.
Below the above four function buttons are two options that allow you to optimize or stream the game you are playing to YouTube. However, the Game optimization feature is not yet active. Meanwhile, if you want to use YouTube’s Live feature, your smartphone also needs to meet the hardware requirements of this social network.
As you can see, accessing Game mode on Android 12 beta is currently quite inconvenient. However, this will most likely change on the stable version of Android 12. Google could then allow game developers to display the Game mode activation dialog through an overlay, a floating bubble on the screen, or through the Quick Settings menu.
Good luck!
