Every morning after the PC is idle for a very long time, it will disconnect all of its connection in the Printer, File and exchange servers. We already change the setting to never hibernate, monitor, hard drive always on. Ethernet power save is off. A duplicate name has been detected on the TCP network. The IP address of the computer that sent the message is in the data.
I tried to ping the printer server and I’m getting a response to it (Printer, File and exchange servers) but if I will browse the server by using \\PrinterServer it will say “You were not connected because a duplicate name exists on the network”.
Restarting the workstation will solve the issue but restarting every morning makes my user annoyed.
Other Technical details please find below.

Any feedback on this would be highly appreciated.
CAUSE:There are several possible reasons why this error message may be generated:
1) There is a computer on the network with the same name.
2) Identical user name logged on to multiple computers.
3) Inactive or duplicate names in the WINS database.
4) Corruption in the DHCP database.
5) Conflicting network adapters in a multihomed computer.
6) “ipconfig/all” returns incorrect host name.
Please check it.
RESOLUTION:
1) If the IP address is all zeros, have the customer look to see if there are any Windows for Workgroups computers on the network with the same name. Windows for Workgroups computers will sometimes return all zeros for their IP address with this error.
2) The user names will register with a <03h> and that will be the name in conflict. Have the user log off of all computers and log back on to just one.
3) Check the database to verify there are no duplicate entries.

1- The “Duplicate name exists” error indicates the (NetBIOS) name of the Windows computer conflicts with some other name on the network. Most commonly, this happens when another Windows computer on the local network uses the same name. This error can also occur when one of the connected Windows workgroups has the same name as the computer. “Duplicate name exists” errors prevent a Windows computer from joining the network. The computer will start up and function in an offline mode only.
2- To resolve this error, simply change the name of the computer to one that is not used by other local computers (or Windows workgroups), then reboot.
3- verify the Windows Internet Naming Service (WINS) is up to date. In rare instances, “Duplicate name exists” is a false error reported when old information is stored in the WINS database.
4- Delete the conflicting NetBIOS name in Windows Internet Naming Service (WINS). For more information about WINS, see the Windows 2000 Server Windows Internet Naming Service (WINS)
