Fix: unable to install windows updates, error code 0x80073712, Np mate, always happy to help. Glad it got fixed. We tried several other things (refresh pc, clean windows install) before resorting to the update assistant.

Trying to install 2020-05 Cumulative update for windows 10 Version 1809 for x64 – based system, but error pops up. The update does reach 100%, but then errors out.

I tried resetting the windows update in services, but have yet to attempt an administrative CMP fix. Is this a system issue, or i am simply missing some pre-reque updates before i can successfully update?

1] Run the DISM . tool

When you run the DISM tool, it will repair the Windows system image and the Windows Component Store in Windows 10. You will have various options including /ScanHealth, /CheckHealth and /RestoreHealth. In Command Prompt (Admin), you need to run the following command:

DISM.exe/Online/Cleanup-image/Restorehealth

When you run this tool, logs will be generated at C: Windows Logs CBS CBS.log. This process takes about 15 minutes or more depending on the level of corruption.

While the chances are less, if the Windows Update client has been corrupted, you will be prompted to use the running Windows installation as the repair source, or to use the Windows parallel folder from a network share, as the file source . In this case, you will need to run an elevated command to replace the broken Windows update repair:

Fix ISDone.dll error, Unarc.dll return error code message on Windows 10
DISM.exe/Online/Cleanup-Image/RestoreHealth/Source:C:RepairSourceWindows/LimitAccess
2]Run System File Checker

Running SFC will repair corrupted or damaged Windows. You will need to run this command from an elevated CMD i.e. Command Prompt launched with administrative privileges.

3] Fix hard drive error

If your hard disk has integrity issues, the update will fail because the system will think it is unhealthy. You should run chkdsk in a command prompt to resolve those issues.

4]Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter

You should run the built-in Windows Update Troubleshooter and see if that helps you.

5]Run the Microsoft online troubleshooter

You can also repair Windows Update Error using Microsoft’s online troubleshooter. Maybe this will help.
