The origin of Uncle Roger’s popularity

In early July, Nigel Ng, a Malaysian vlogger, posted a reaction video to the BBC Food’s Chinese-style rice-roasting guide. The humorous Vlogger nicknamed Uncle Roger burned fire when he saw MC Hersha Patel pour cooked rice into a colander, then rinse it under the tap water.

“She’s draining the water with a colander. How can you drain the rice water with a colander? It’s not pasta!” Exclaimed Nigel. He complains that Chef Patel is ruining the rice by draining all the bran.

The video that Nigel thought would bring humorous content, sparked a fierce wave on social networks. The video has attracted more than 10 million views on YouTube, and 40 million interactions on Twitter.

Countless internet users criticized Chef Patel’s cooking style for not being like the traditional way of roasting. Because, she never rinsed the rice before cooking, the rice was still depressed with too much water. She should have used cold rice. The eggs for roasting the rice are overcooked.

On August 9, Nigel posted a video of visiting Patel’s home to enjoy the fried rice with her own recipe. Nigel gave this version of fried rice 6 out of 10, and appreciated how she tasted rice with soy sauce, and even suggested adding MSG.
